FAQs | Custom Made Jewellery

How do I place a custom order?

Contact us via Instagram DM @crystalcoreca or by email crystalcorecompany@gmail.com and present your idea! Visit our Custom Made Jewellery page for complete breakdown of the process, as well as examples of past commissions. Our Swarovski Crystal Jewellery also covers custom made order’s, but with a twist of refined materials and profound elegance. ☆

Do you do repairs?

Yes we do! At this time, we offer any type of repair that does not involve soldering or welding. Not sure? Send us a picture of your jewellery via Instagram DM or email at crystalcorecompany@gmail.com and we’ll let you know if it’s possible :) Depending on the type of repair and how many materials of our own that we are using, it can range from $5-$40. Let us know what you’re looking to do, and we will give you an estimate.

How long is the process?

Depending on the level of detail, a custom order can take anywhere from 2 to 5 days. If a custom order is being placed during a busy season, like the holidays, the process may be longer. Ask us how long something might take, if needed before a certain date. We can make your order a priority for an additional fee of 10%, during these busy times.

Is there an additional fee for custom orders?

Our custom orders have a flat $5 commission fee for orders less than $35 and a 15% commission fee for items greater than $35. The difference in commission fees according to the order’s price is due to the amount of time communicating between us and the customer. With something more expensive, more details and materials are to be discussed. As well as mockups provided, going back and forth, we provide this service to our fullest capability to give you designing flexibility.

How do I chose the right crystal/evil eye colour for me or the person I’m shopping for?

My number one suggestion to people who are having a hard time deciding, is to go with your gut feeling. Our intuition is much stronger than we think. Your initial attraction is usually the winner. Catch yourself feeling drawn to something and lead with that instinct, because It’s usually right!

If you’re shopping with a certain set of healing properties in mind, quickly look up what crystal is best for that area of life, and select that crystal as an option for one of our many crystal products. Our evil eyes also vary in symbolism, depending on its colour. You can read the different attributes of each one on our “What Does The Evil Eye Mean?” Blog.

Can you solder or weld metal?

We do not offer soldering or welding services at this time.

Can you make something surrounding certain healing properties?

We would be more than happy to! ♡ Given we write all of our crystal definition cards, we have a great understanding of what healing properties lie within our crystals and what specific areas of life they can help benefit the wearer!

Can I use my own crystals in a custom piece?

You certainly can! If you are local to Halifax, Nova Scotia, drop it off at our next local market pop up, to begin your comission. We can talk through details in person and keep contact online for further advancement in your custom piece.

If you are not local, send us a message via Instagram DM or by email crystalcorecompaany@gmail.com showing your interest for a custom order. Send pictures of your crystal(s) and their measurements. Once details are agreed upon, mail your crystal(s) to our address (will be provided upon request). We do not cover your initial shipment. Although, free standard shipping is offered, once custom order is made and ready to be mailed to you. Additional fee of $10 for this type of comission.

Do you do group custom orders?

Yes we do! We ask that you are understanding of a longer processing time for a larger order. Anywhere from 1-2 weeks for bulk order’s of 8+ items.

Is a custom made jewellery more expensive than ready made jewellery?

Our custom orders have a flat $5 commission fee for orders less than $35 and a 15% commission fee for items greater than $35. The jewellery’s price (before the custom made fee) is calculated accordingly, like any other ready made item.

FAQs | Material

Does it tarnish?

Our plated wire is a tarnish resistant silver and 14k gold plated copper wire that can tarnish if not maintained properly. Remove before showering and swimming to prolong its lifespan and maintain its non tarnish quality. If worn consistently in water, the plating will not be sustained, therefore revealing the copper wire underneath the metal coating and prone to tarnishing.

Jewellery made with stainless steel, 925 sterling silver and 14k gold filled wire is completely safe in water and will not tarnish.

What is the difference between gold plated and gold filled?

Gold-filled and gold-plated jewelry differ primarily in the thickness of the gold layer and how the gold is applied to the base metal

Gold-filled jewelry is made by bonding a thick layer of solid gold (at least 5% of the item’s total weight) to a base metal, typically brass, using heat and pressure. This results in a durable, long-lasting piece that looks like solid gold but is more affordable. The gold layer in gold-filled pieces doesn’t wear off easily, making it resistant to tarnishing and fading.

Gold-plated jewelry is made by applying a thin layer of gold onto a base metal, such as brass or stainless steel, using an electroplating process. The gold layer is usually very thin, making the jewelry more affordable but less durable compared to gold-filled or solid gold pieces. Over time, the gold layer can wear off, exposing the base metal underneath, especially with frequent use or exposure to moisture.

In short, gold-filled jewelry offers a thicker gold layer and greater longevity, while gold-plated jewelry is more affordable but less durable.

Where do you source your crystals?

We source our crystals from different bead shops. Whether it be a local crystal store, our suppliers, or rock hunting treasures from our local beaches, they are genuine semi-precious gemstones and crystals, grades A-B.

When purchasing our crystals, we make sure to look for natural flaws, inclusions, and growth patterns. Synthetic stones often lack these natural imperfections.

As well as the Moh’s Scale of hardness - Gemstones can be tested lightly scratching material of known hardness, such as a steel blade or glass. Real gemstones should not scratch easily if their hardness is greater than the test material. For example, quartz has a hardness of 7 and should not scratch easily by steel or glass.

Can I shower/swim with my jewellery?

Does the stretchy string break easily?

Do you work with birthstones?

Crystal Core Jewellery works with semi-precious gemstones. Therefore, a traditional birthstone, like ruby or a sapphire, wouldn’t be possible. Although, we do use alternative birthstones, like Pink Opal October, or Citrine for November.

Who’s handmaking the jewellery?
