Measuring your ring size at home is simple and can be done using basic tools! Follow these steps to find the perfect fit ♡
Method 1: Using a Ring You Already Own
- Select a Ring: Choose a ring that fits the finger you want to size. Remember, the fingers on your dominant hand may be slightly larger.
- Measure the Diameter:
- Use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the inside diameter of the ring (the distance across the center of the ring).
- Make sure to measure in millimeters (mm) for accuracy.
- Match the Measurement: Once you have the measurement, compare it to a ring size chart to find your corresponding size. For example, a diameter of 17.3 mm equals a size 7 in the U.S.
Method 2: Using a String or Paper Strip
-
Prepare a Strip:
- Take a piece of non-stretchy string, a thin strip of paper, or even dental floss.
- Make sure it’s about 4-5 inches long.
- Wrap the string or paper around the base of the finger you want to measure.
- Be careful not to wrap too tightly or loosely. It should fit comfortably, as your ring will need to slide over your knuckle.
-
Mark the Spot:
- Using a pen, mark where the string or paper overlaps.
-
Measure the Length:
- Lay the string or paper flat on a ruler and measure it in millimeters (mm).
- This measurement gives you the circumference of your finger.
-
Compare to a Size Chart:
- Match the circumference with a ring size chart to find your size. For example, if your finger circumference is 54.4 mm, your ring size would be a U.S. size 7.
Method 3: Print a Ring Size Chart
1. Download & Print: Download this printable ring size chart (source: worldofprintables.com), or use this one for A4 paper, and print from computer. These charts either let you match an existing ring to a printed size or use a paper ruler to measure your finger.
2. Follow Guide: It’s at 100% scale. Use your ring to compare it with the ring size guide, making sure to match the diameters. Or, you can use the ring sizer directly on the finger you wish to measure.
DONT FORGET TO
• Measure at the End of the Day: Your fingers can swell throughout the day, so it’s best to measure in the evening when your hands are warm, for the most accurate results.
• Consider Temperature: Cold temperatures can shrink your fingers, and heat can make them swell. Measure at room temperature for accuracy.
• Recheck for Comfort: Your ring should fit snugly but still be able to slide over your knuckle.
• Account for Knuckle Size: If you have larger knuckles, measure both the base of your finger and your knuckle, then choose a size in between.
